Flaw Detection (NDT)
Flaw Detection (NDT)
Non-destructive testing (NDT) makes it possible to assess the condition of a product without damaging it – in production, during assembly and in service. In Lithuania UAB „Matavimo technologijos“ represents two German manufacturers: Karl Deutsch (ultrasonic, magnetic particle, penetrant testing, crack depth) and Institut Dr. Foerster (eddy current, magnetic induction).
Which method to choose:
Ultrasonic testing (UT) – wall thickness measurement (also through coatings and from one side) and detection of internal defects in castings, forgings and welds.
Eddy current testing (ET) – surface cracks in electrically conductive metals; suitable both for mobile inspection and for automated series testing in the line.
Magnetic particle testing (MT) – detection of surface and near-surface cracks in ferromagnetic parts, welds, forgings, axles.
Penetrant testing (PT) – surface defects in any non-porous material (steel, aluminium, ceramics, plastics).
Crack depth measurement – determining the depth and inclination of a crack already found, using the potential drop method.
Magnetic induction – hardness, structure, heat treatment and material mix-up testing in series production.
Standards referenced in the manufacturers’ documents: EN ISO 3452-2/-6 (PT materials), EN ISO 9934-2/-3 (MT media and equipment), EN ISO 3059 (UV and white light measurement), EN ISO 17638 (MT of welds), EN 1330-4 (UT terminology), ASME V Art. 6, ASTM E1444, ASTM E3022, AMS 2644. Personnel qualification according to ISO 9712.
In your enquiry please state: the material (ferromagnetic / non-ferrous / austenitic), part geometry and dimensions, the type and minimum size of defects to be found, the inspection scope (single / series, manual / automated), the environment (workshop, field, explosive atmosphere), the required standards and documentation needs.
